Education Systems
Project Focus: North Africa
We help refugee families who are awaiting resettlement by educating their children. We provide these children an opportunity to learn English in a caring environment, by which they can be prepared for their transition to their new country. Many of the children actually do not go to school at all, so simply giving them an opportunity to learn in a regular school environment provides them with a safe place for learning and making friends, as well as a healthy outlet for energy. We teach our students values such as respect and kindness towards self and others. We also teach them to resolve conflict in healthy ways. We help them become more aware in basic hygiene. Our school works with relevant NGOs to provide scholarships to those who cannot afford the cost of tuition. Whether the student has never been to school, in which case we teach basic skills such as reading and writing, or has been to school regularly in the past, we adjust to fit the needs of each child. We take them on field trips to help them have new cultural experiences. Many of these children have gone through traumatic experiences, so we also provide counseling services for them.
